I wasn't walking and I wasn't driving I told my friends I must of been flying The night that we gave away and left So so little to go on Oh go on and pretend it could ever be how it was I convinced myself that but not in so many words Mine were a prayer and a song never written But you probably already knew that And the moonshine washed over everything I took it so hard that I didn't even sing And the house it never was empty And my solitude never left me alone And the datkness on both sides of the glass Terrified me so I never asked I've been talking to our betfer angels you see They reminded me there's so much more that I could be Like a light that goes on and on and on and on But only if I want it to And a sermon just happened to happen sonetimes Between blank verse, prose, and misbegotten rhymes We so hopelessly pantomime telling ourselves We believe. We believe. We believe And the truth is right where we left it Where the sky it could collect it in time And the rain came down like a parade And you came back to me in the sound that it made

I ain't sorry, I thought that you knew, there is always an ending even when you are free. Light another, pretend it's not brand new. I ain't sorry you thought that you knew me. You said you were worried the gift wouldn't come. I've excepted too many now to give back a few. I always intended to give back at least some. Guess I just guessed it would get back to you. One eye listens for silence the other for news, and besides you can barely hear over the sound of yr blues. One of us can't be wrong and I can't be expected to choose. One ear watches for stillnes the other for moves. I'm so sorry, I thought that you knew me

Only A Song 03:45
I know what I have been told Pretty sure it's lies Trying to remain childlike I disbelieve my sight Idiots in aftermaths They dance and sing despite The story of the gory rain That fell from such great heights And oh It just doesn't seem right All the old appetites Don't hold up to the light I knew you so long ago But then again too soon The freedom-fighter side of your family Grew up to be the woman in the moon And have you thought of me Since I preoccupied your flights of fancy Do you even realize That the clemency was goddamn guarantee It just doesn't seem wrong When it's only a song Drifting soft through the dark And oh I just cannot keep singing It's always only the beginning

You'd best just tell your story walking tell it to yourself while you are sleeping on the roadside dreaming of some kind of compromise

What was it you thought that you wanted when you left the place that your younger ghosts haunted? the plan was to live simply. I guess it always is. Now what would you give for the old complex? What would you do if you had it back? Who said this is all a joke? You can laugh all you like just don't wish you hadn't spoken. When the plan's to be the last one left the question's always why. Now what you give for even one more try? What was it we thought that we needed when no advice ca go undefeated? The aftermath is always the same, of course it always was. Now what can I say when you answer "just because," and what would you give for what you think that you want?
